The Symbol of the Holy Spirit (II)

By Pastor Young Joon Park

June 13, 2010

We meditated the name of the Holy Spirit (the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ and the Comforter). God also spoke to us on the seven sins against the Holy Spirit last two weeks ago.

Through the Word of God, God represents the Holy Spirit to us as several different symbols and the Promises of the Holy Spirit in our life.

Last week

The symbols of the Holy Spirit:

The Fire, the Wind, the Oil,

Today – the Dove, the Water,

Next week – the Rain, the Wine,

The special functions of the Holy Spirit in our life

The Seal and the Pledge

I. The Symbol of the Holy Spirit

1. Fire

Matthew 3:11b

¡¦ He (Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and Fire.

1) Fire is God¡¯s Presence

2) Fire consumes to clean and to purify

3) Fire gives light

4) Fire gives heat and power

2. Wind

John 3:8

The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.

1) The wind is everywhere

2) The wind blows without ceasing

3) The wind blows where it wishes

4) The wind brings the fresh air

3. Anointing Oil

1 John 2:27a

As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you ¡¦

1) Consecration

2) Revelation

3) Healing

4. A Dove

John 1:32

I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.

1) Peace with God

Genesis 8: Noah sent a dove after God¡¯s judgment – this dove brought the good news (the olive leaf)

The Holy Spirit dwells in the person who believes in Jesus only.

Jesus was condemned and judged by God on the Cross for you and me, and we have peace with God through Jesus¡¯ Blood.

The Holy Spirit dwells in us means that we are in peace with God.

Even today, the Holy Spirit continually takes the good news olive leaf, Jesus¡¯ Christ, and proclaims the salvation to the lost.

Fruit of the Holy Spirit: Love, Joy and Peace

2) Gentle and humble

The Holy Spirit transforms our character into the gentleness and the humility when the Holy Spirit comes in our life. God wants us to be like Jesus as His Character. We are going to have two major shift ups, the fruit of the Holy Spirit and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, when the Holy Spirit dwells in us.

Galatians 5:21-22

The fruit of the Holy Spirit

love, joy, peace, longsuffering (patience), kindness, goodness, faith (faithfulness), meekness (gentleness), temperance (self-control)

John 15:2

Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away;

and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.

When the Holy Spirit dwells in us, then Character of Him will reflect in us and will be flowing out from our within.

We cannot change our character, but only the Holy Spirit can change us.

However, the change does not come automatic.

We know that the Holy Spirit is with us, but why does not the Fruit of the Holy Spirit flow through us? The reason is that our flesh blocks to flow the fruit of the Holy Spirit from inside of us to outside. That is why we have to deny our own flesh will, lay them down onto the cross, execute, and destroy in daily.

Jesus wants us to abide in Him, and abide in Him means that we yield our will to His Will, and then we can dwell in His Will.

This is what Jesus gave us the instruction very clearly Luke 9:23.

Luke 9:23

And He was saying to them all, ¡°If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.

We have to put our will on the cross and nail it that Jesus Christ already paid in full, because we died on the Cross with Jesus at the same time, so we need to keep bring it to the cross everyday.

How can we die?

1) You have to believe that Jesus paid your sinful nature fully 100% on the Cross.

2) The moment when you see your flesh, bring it to the Lord.

3) Declare to put it on the cross and to execute the flesh in Jesus¡¯ Name.

4) Submit your will to His Will and follow Him in practical way through the Holy Spirit.

5) Keep doing it continually until you really die in that area.

The main battleground is your own mind, but not other people.

Everything will change if I change, but nothing will change if I do not change.

Check yourselves what you have to change.

3) Purity and harmless

Dove is very different kind bird than crow and eagle.

The Holy Spirit is Holy One.

Dove is clean animal, so God appointed the dove as sacrifice animal to God.

All of the vultures or crows are unclean animal, so they cannot use for the sacrifice animal to God.

God accepted the doves as sacrifice to the Lord, but not crowd or any vultures.

Crow – eat dead one  – all kinds of the impurity thought come cross in mind

Eagle – eat dead one also hunting the preys – extreme anger, hate, revenge mind

Galatians 5:17a

For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh¡¦

We have to follow the Holy Spirit and against the desire of the flesh, so we have to resist the devil like the crow and the eagle everyday continually.

When the Holy Spirit dwells in us, we are going to have the desire to be pure, humble and sensitive about sin in our life.

Some people still speak against other with threat, intimidate, curse or rage even the people who walk under the wonders and signs.

We should not grieve the Holy Spirit in our daily life.

How many people do not want follow your flesh desire?

I know that you do not want to follow your flesh desire, but follow the desire of the Holy Spirit.

I really want to follow the desire of the Holy Spirit.

How can we follow the desire of the Holy Spirit alone?

God gave us the instruction to us how to follow His Desire very clearly.

Do you want to hear about it?

It is not a new, but you knew and heard many time, and it is time we really renew our heart to follow His Will alone.

Psalm 1:1-3

PS 1:1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,

Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

PS 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.

PS 1:3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.

We should not counsel with the wicked from the beginning, but we have to counsel with the Holy Spirit, because the enemy wants to destroy, but the Holy Spirit wants to me success.

You will follow the desire of the Holy Spirit if you spend time with the Holy Spirit.

Even if you failed, here is good news for all of us when you realized your sin when you failed.

1 John 1:9

We have to confess – forgiveness the sin, cleans from all unrighteousness which was defiled by the sin.

We have to understand the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit did not come to us to criticize or to destroy.

The Holy Spirit came to us to heal and to give the life to us.

4) Sensitivity

Dove is very sensitive bird.

Dove never comes back if she is shocked or harassed few times.

God spoke to us about the seven sins against the Holy Spirit last two weeks ago.

o   To grieve the Holy Spirit

o   To despite (insult) the Holy Spirit

o   To quench the Holy Spirit

o   To resist the Holy Spirit

o   To lie to the Holy Spirit

o   To attempt to test the Holy Spirit

o   To disobey the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit can leave you if you keep in sinning against the Holy Spirit.

Let us see Jesus¡¯ life.

The Holy Spirit came down and rested upon Jesus.

The Holy Spirit as a Dove was staying upon Jesus¡¯ Shoulder.

We know that Jesus never 7 sins against the Holy Spirit at all even unto His Cross.

How did Jesus walk with the Holy Spirit? I believe that Jesus¡¯ Journey was very sensitive to the Holy Spirit and fully with Him.

Are we sensitive to the Holy Spirit in our daily walk in our mind, language, action?

If you continually live in evil way, the Holy Spirit might leave you, so you need to sensitive to the Holy Spirit and respect to Him in your daily life.

5. Living Water

John 7: 38

38 He who believes in Me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

1) Essential to Life

Throughout the human history, Human society was built up around the source of the water.

Without water people cannot live.

The Holy Spirit is not an option for our life, but He is indispensable (essential) and vital for our entire life.

Born again through the Holy Spirit.

John 3:5 ¡°Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.¡±

Source of spiritual life

1 Corinthians 12:13 ¡°For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.¡±

We have to drink the Holy Spirit for the abundant spiritual life continually.

What would you do when you plant the tree in your garden?

You water the tree continually.

The tree will be dried out if you do not water it, and finally it will be died.

In a same way we will be dried out and be died if we do not drink the Holy Spirit continually.

2) Cleansing

We have to clean many things with water in our life.

Our physical body, cloths, dishes and utensils, cars¡¦.

We are going to be in the risk of the disease and very filthy life if we do not clean with water.

In our spiritual life, we have to cleanse our life with the Holy Spirit.

Our sin is washed away by the Blood of Jesus Christ when we believed Jesus Christ.

Also our life will be washing of regeneration and renewing and refreshing by the Holy Spirit.

  3) Abundant life

Ezekiel 47:

From the temple

water was trickling from the south side.

measured in thousand cubits – the ankles.

measured in thousand – the knees.

measured in thousand – the loins.

measured in thousand – a river

bank of the river – very many trees, fruit – food, leaves – ]healing

Flow to Dead Sea – sea become fresh.

The life – every living creature, many fish, fishermen

The water is small amount around the temple, but farther from the temple we can see the deeper water and abundant life. The Holy Spirit who is in us will flow over through our life and become a river, so we are the vessel for the source of the abundant life to the world.

John 7: 38

38 He who believes in Me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

How can we drink the Holy Spirit?

John 7:37 ¡°If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.¡±

We need to come to the Lord in daily and have the relationship with the Lord.

Personal – personal prayer time or reading time

Corporate – all kinds of church fellowship, conference¡¦

Conclusion

Ephesians 5:8

¡¦ but be filled with the Spirit,

We cannot live without water physically.

We cannot live without the Holy Spirit in spiritually and naturally.

Long time ago, one of my co-workers was always talking about money, how many houses he had and what he is going to do about his money after his retirement. His mind was full of mammon matter. Not only he was talking about money, but also his emotion was attached with full of mammon things.

One day he was so excited when the stock market price went up and other day he was in depression because of the falling of the stock.

Your life and mind will be filled with what you invest.

We are going to be filled with something else if we do not fill with the Holy Spirit in daily.

God gave us the Holy Spirit in our heart as a Pledge

2 Corinthians 1:22

who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.

God gave us a good picture of the Holy Spirit to understand through Genesis 24:

Prophetic meaning

Abraham – Father God

Isaac – Jesus Christ

Rebekah – The bride, church, yourself

The oldest servant – the Holy Spirit

Our Holy Spirit is always with us as our pledge and lead us and makes us to be pure as Jesus¡¯ bride. We are going to grieve the Holy Spirit if we do not walk under His Care.

So we always yield our flesh desire and submit to the Holy Spirit.

What do you want to fill in your life, the Holy Spirit or Devil?

Let¡¯s welcome the Holy Spirit and fill with the Holy Spirit.
