The Holy Spirit

I. The Name

We can understand the person through the name.

Jesus – the Son of God, the Begotten Son, the Savior, the Word of God, the King of kings, the Lord of lords¡¦

Same way, the Holy Spirit has different names.

Holy Spirit – the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ, the Helper¡¦

 

1. The Holy Spirit

Acts 1:8

but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.¡±

 

He is One of the Trinity.

According His name, we can see His Role is related with Purity and Holiness.

 

The Holy Spirit is

1) The Consuming Fire of God to destroy sin

2) The Power of God to bring holiness and purity.

 

Through the Holy Spirit

3) We can overcome to victory against the devil.

4) We can discern spirits.

 

2. The Spirit of God

Romans 8:9

However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

 

The Book of John

¡°The Father who sent Me¡± is emphasized.

Jesus Christ was sent here by Father God.

 

In the same way, the Holy Spirit is sent to us by the Father God, and that is why the name of the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God.

 

Our Father God is working through the Holy Spirit among us until today, just as He was working through Jesus Christ  2000 years ago.

 

1) He brings the sinners (the lost) to Jesus Christ for the eternal redemption

2) He reveals the Truth

3) He leads the Saints

 

3. The Spirit of Christ

Romans 8:9

However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

 

John the Baptist declared and prophesied, ¡°Jesus will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and Fire.¡± (Luke 3:16) So we understand that Jesus Christ is the baptizer of the Holy Spirit and  the Holy Spirit came to accomplish the Kingdom of God through Jesus Christ¡¯s Redemption.

Like as Jesus Christ came here to serve and to give His Life a ransom for many according to Mark 10:45.

 

The Holy Spirit did not come here to do the new things other than Jesus Christ¡¯s redemption, but to accomplish fully His Redemption until Jesus comes.

 

John 16:14

He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

 

That is why His Name is the Spirit of Christ, who glorifies and manifests only Jesus Christ to the world.

 

Even our name is ¡°Christian.¡±

Christ is everything to me, but I am nothing.

The Christian is to manifest and glorify Jesus Christ to the world as His Witness instead of witness about me.

 

We cannot see Jesus, but we can see Jesus through the Holy Spirit.

Likewise, people cannot see Jesus, but we can see Jesus Christ through our life. That is why we are His Witness, also the word of witness in Greek ¡°mavrtu"¡± has the meaning of Martyr. The Christian life is the life of martyr every day for His Kingdom.

 

 

Acts 1:8

but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth

 

 

Luke 9:23

If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.

We cannot love our neighbor if I do not die, but the Lord wants us to die my flesh will and obey to Him alone. Otherwise, we would end up not wanting to come to Jesus, and thus no salvation.

 

If you really want to follow Jesus Christ today, then die yourself and obey to Him today and practice it today.

                                               

4. The Comforter (the Helper or the Counselor)

John 14:16-17

16 And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever;

 

I shared about the Helper last week.

According to this word, Jesus mentions there is another Comforter who is the Holy Spirit. It means that Jesus was the First Comforter for us.

 

The meaning of the word ¡°another¡± is not about the different kind, but the exact same kind and the same quality. This would also indicate that the Holy Spirit is the same Comforter with Jesus Christ. And the Holy Spirit is going to work with the same character and the purpose of Jesus after the Pentecost Day.

 

During the 33 years Jesus has been in the ministry on earth, and after the Pentecost the Holy Spirit has been carrying out Jesus¡¯ work for the Kingdom of God until today.

 

And He may abide with you forever, not just temporarily.

The Helper (Comforter or Counselor) is going to stay with us to guide us, to lead us, to protect us and to live with together until the end of our life or Jesus¡¯ Second Coming.

 

You cannot see the Holy Spirit through your natural eyes, but you know Him and He is with you all the time. He wants you to be sensitive to Him continually.

The Holy Spirit does not force you to obey, but He wants us to follow Him from our heart.

 

Through the relationship with the Holy Spirit we could commit sin against the Holy Spirit.

There are 7 sins.

 

II. 7 sins against the Holy Spirit

 

1. To grieve the Holy Spirit

 

Ephesians 4:30

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

 

Example) Our sin

Application) We have to confess our sin – I John 1:9

 

If the Holy Spirit manifests and Glorifies Jesus Christ alone, then how much more Jesus Christ should be glorified and manifested through our life!  We always concern about ourselves first.  Me, me, me, me,¡¦.. 

 

Our church should be led by the Spirit of Christ only, not by our own will of flesh desire, because Jesus declared, ¡°Upon this rock I will build My Church.¡± (Matthew 16:18)

 

His Church is manifesting the Love of God to the world and His Will.

The Love of God and His Will is His Greatest Commandments.

We know God¡¯s Great Commandments very well, and this is our vision of One Glory Church.

¡°To love God and To love our neighbors!¡±

The motto of our One Glory Church – ¡°To Know Jesus Christ and To Live Like Jesus Christ!¡±

 

Do we really obey His Commandments to love Him and to love our neighbors?

Do you know that you will face rejection from people? I know that you do not enjoy rejection.

Do you want to be accepted and be loved by the brothers and sisters? Then you obey this God¡¯s Greatest Commandments that was given to us.

 

Let¡¯s practice it today to accept your brothers and sisters whom you have any problems with. If we do not practice to accept and love among us, then we are no following the Lord at all. Do not expect that God will use you to reach out to the world, either.

 

Jesus wants us to witness His Love from Jerusalem first, but not start from the end of the earth.

 

If you really want to live by the Holy Spirit, then you give your love to your brothers and sisters today.

 

We need to repent seriously in this area. We cannot see the Lord if we do not obey to Him.

 

 

2. To despite (insult) the Holy Spirit

 

Hebrews 10:29

How much severe punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

 

Willful sin – there is no sacrifice, because this action blasphemed the Lord.

 

Hebrew 10:26 

¡¦deliberately (willfully) keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,

Numbers 15:30-31

30 ¡®But the person who does anything defiantly, whether he is native or an alien, that one is blaspheming the LORD; and that person shall be cut off from among his people.

31 ¡®Because he has despised the word of the LORD and has broken His commandment, that person shall be completely cut off; his guilt will be on him.¡¯ ¡±

 

Example) nullify Jesus Christ¡¯s redemption

Application) Only focusing on the Lord and stand on the truth and live with it.

 

3. To quench the Holy Spirit

 

I Thessalonians 5:19

Do not quench the Spirit;

 

Example) The Holy Spirit wants to do His Will through you, group, church and many different forms, but people control the Holy Spirit¡¯s Will.

Application) We need to follow the Holy Spirit¡¯s flow like a wind.

 

4. To resist the Holy Spirit

 

Acts 7:51

You men who are stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did.

 

Example) Reject the Holy Spirit¡¯s Will, because there is no understanding and ignorance

Application) We have to humble our heart, open our heart to the Holy Spirit.

 

5. To lie to the Holy Spirit

 

Acts 5:3

But Peter said, ¡°Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land?

 

Example) We cannot hide anything from the Holy Spirit because of His Omniscience.

Application) We have to open our heart and be honest to the Holy Spirit

 

 6. To attempt to test the Holy Spirit

 

Acts 5:9

Then Peter said to her, ¡°Why is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out as well.¡±

 

Example) satan tried to test God through his 2nd temptation against Jesus by letting Him jump from the top of the temple, just wanted to see whether God protect Him or not. We could test the Holy Spirit like the same manner.

Application) We have to know who the Holy Spirit is and follow Him alone.

7. To disobey the Holy Spirit

 

Acts 5:32

And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.¡±

 

In this ending time we have to watch the evil spirit and resist the devil from us, because satan releases his evil forces in to God¡¯s church in massive ways for the destruction.

We need to guard our church and ourselves from the devil among us, and we have to cast them out from us.

The sin of witchcraft and the stubbornness are the major sins in church, and these are evil spirits.

 

I Samuel 15:22-23

22 And Samuel said, ¡°Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being king.¡±

 

Witchcraft – rebellious

Jezebel – control

Both character – jealousy, destroy everything – want to do my way only

Do not want to follow the will of the Lord at all, but my will and my way only.

 

Conclusion

 

Ephesians 5:8

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,
