The Love of Mother

5-9-10

A teacher was trying to teach her class a lesson about fractions. After the lesson she asked one of the boys, “Johnny” with a large family. “There are 6 people in your family. Your mom cut a pie for you that she just baked. What percentage of the pie will you have received?”

Johnny thought for a minute and said, “One-fifth.” The teacher said, “Remember there are 6 people in your family. Now, how big would your piece of pie have been?” And again the boy said, “One-fifth.” The teacher said, “No, you don’t understand fractions.” And Johnny respectfully said, “You don’t understand my mom. She would have said, that she didn’t want any.”

Today we are going to meditate about Mary who was the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1. Mary was highly favored by God

And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

Luke 1:28

And the angel came in unto her, and said, “Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.”

The fruit of the womb – conceive a baby

Sarah – Isaac from barren woman (hopeless)

Rebecca – Jacob – right choice

Ruth – David’s father Jesse from the Gentiles

Bathsheba – Solomon – ungodly life, but David’s repentance

Mary – Jesus Christ

Israel culture about the children

No children – curse

Children – blessing and favor from the Lord

Elizabeth was righteous person to the Lord, but she did not have children at all until her old age.

There are 3 different kinds of parents

· Biological parents

· Adoptive parents

· Spiritual parents

Psalm 127:3

Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.

All Mothers, you are highly favored of the Lord.

We all are so very important to the Lord that God created us “fearfully and wonderfully” in our mother. Needless to say that no one can be here without our mother.

Psalm 139:14

I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.

We all need to honor our mother and relationship with our mother has to be just right, because of very special unique relationship between mother and her children.

2. Mary surrendered to God’s Will

1) protector

Matthew 1:19

And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly.

She was willing to fulfill God’s Will and protect Him through her conception of Baby Jesus no matter what price and the sacrifices that she had to pay. She was not afraid of anything to do His Will.

She had gone through the toughest time in her life at that moment. She could have been condemned from the society and her marriage could have been jeopardized. It could have meant the maximum damage over her life. She broke through the difficult time with Jesus who was in her womb.

There are some mothers who are not able to keep her baby in her womb. Especially since 1970, pregnancy in teen-aged girl increased because of the ungodly stream in the world. According to a survey in 1980, 4000 abortion was performed a day in this country. That translates into one baby being killed each 24 second.

I heard one tearful testimony during the Call in Washington DC in 2000. He led worship during the Rally of the Call. There was one young lady who became pregnant and it was because she was raped by someone. Her family and relatives pressured her to abort the baby, but she decided against abortion and gave a birth. The baby boy was the worship leader himself.

Our mother carried you for 9 or 10 months in her womb with extra care and protection over you. I have seen my wife and my daughter how they lived during the pregnancy.  And finally the baby was delivered safely.

2) Loving Care

Mary had gone through hard life since she encountered with the Angel Gabriel.

Pregnancy – almost the rejection from her husband Joseph

Full term of pregnancy – she had to travel to Bethlehem

After the birth of Jesus – they had to flee to Egypt

During those hard times she had been taking care of Jesus with her endless love. When you have a baby you have to give your full attention to the baby with your full love. When I am praying in my prayer room, my younger grandson enters the room often. I have to stop and put everything aside and get ready to take care of him with my full attention whenever I see him in my room.

Vanessa and Jose situation about their baby boy Isaac

Isaac who was in incubator in St Joseph Hospital – Condition – to stay in hospital for more than a month.

I was with them in the Isaac’s room.

I could see things the baby goes through in its mother’s womb.

He heard his mom’s voice and daddy’s voice – he responded, smiled and what’s more is that he even responded by moving when mom touched him with her finger.

Jose could not stop talking about how amazing his baby boy is to him.

How Vanessa takes good and loving care of Isaac goes without saying. They spend time with Isaac everyday in the hospital as much as they can.

Not comparable with mother’s love

There are a lot of people that we love, however, our love does not compare with mother’s love. Not even close.

Mother’s love is unconditional and sacrificial.

We really need this kind of love in our life. And we have this kind of love from our mother.

In return, we need to honor and submit ourselves to our mother.

It is time to change your life and reconnect with your mother even if you have any conflicting views with your mother. There are many people who had some quarrels with mother and stopped communication each other. It is time to restore the relationship with mother.

God as a Mother

I would like to share different side of our Father God

When we think about God, we almost always think of Him as our Father, and seldom as our Mother. We lack much on Motherly concept of God. But through Isaiah, we could learn that God having mother characteristics.

Father God compared Himself with a nursing mother in Isaiah 49:

Isaiah 49:15

Can a woman forget her nursing child and have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.

3. Mary believed in her Son Jesus

John 2:3-5

³ When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus ^*said to Him, “They have no wine.”

⁴ And Jesus ^*said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.”

⁵ His mother ^*said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”

Mary knew Jesus well and His Prophetic Destiny because she raised Him according to God’s prophetic guides, and observed His Life for 30 years.

She believed in Him not just as her Son but also as the Messiah.

When there was a serious problem at the wedding, she knew the solution.

“Yes, my Son has the solution” and she was convinced that He will do it.

We need the trustworthy people and support around us.

Our mother is the one who trust, believe and support us.

She stands by our side at all times.

She comforts us with her whole heart when we are in trouble or difficult times.

Isaiah 66:13

¹³ “As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; And you will be comforted in Jerusalem.

Our Father God compares Himself as Mother to comfort us.

4. Mary was with Jesus’ Passion

Luke 2:35a

and a sword will pierce even your own soul…

John 19:26-27

²⁶ When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He ^*said to His mother, “Woman, behold, your son!”

²⁷ Then He said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” From that hour the disciple took her into his own household.

Mary was with Jesus when He was going through all the persecutions, false accusations, beating, mocking, carrying the cross, crucified on the cross and death on the cross. She witnessed every single pain of Jesus for the sin of the entire human beings. Her heart was pierced because of Jesus’ distress and suffering.

Throughout entire her life, this moment was the hardest moment with extreme pains. Our mother always shares our pains and be with us no matter where we are.

She wrapped Jesus in her heart and tried to protect Him so badly.

Conclusion

There are a lot of things to be said about lives of mothers but the most of all, it’s the sacrificial lives that mothers live for their children.

One Young Man grew up well under his good parents.

He wondered – his face as Asian

His Parents – Caucasian 

Questioned – found his root and story regarding his mom

His mother sacrificed herself for her baby and died to keep him alive.

Visit to Korea to honor his mother.

Our mother always sacrifices herself for us.

Our God sent Jesus and let Him die on the cross with complete nakedness for us.

We need to come to His Cross and surrender our life to the Lord.
