I. The Power of the Cross

Jeremiah 6:14

They have healed the brokenness of My People superficially, saying, ¡°Peace, peace,¡± but there is no peace.

A. The deep inner wounds

Only the cross can heal the deep inner wounds.

As the Message of the Cross moves further from the center of attention, we polarize around personalities.

However the Cross is the central message of the church, because it destroys pride, frees from bondage, releases blessing, and brings people together.

Let¡¯s visit the Cross.

The Cross was the secret to Israel¡¯s healing in the wilderness.

Numbers 21:6-9

6

The LORD sent fiery serpents among the people and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died.

7

So the people came to Moses and said, ¡°We have sinned, because we have spoken against the LORD and you; intercede with the LORD, that He may remove the serpents from us.¡± And Moses interceded for the people.

8

Then the LORD said to Moses, ¡°Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard; and it shall come about, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, he will live.¡±

9

And Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on the standard; and it came about, that if a serpent bit any man, when he looked to the bronze serpent, he lived.

B. The Wounds of Christ

1. His Brows – Peace

Jesus took my cares, worries, and anxieties upon Himself and gave me peace.

2. His Back – Healing

I peter 2:24

¡°By His Wounds you were healed.¡±

Isaiah 52:14

His Appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and His Form marred

beyond human likeness.

Jesus bore my pain and agony, so I could be healed in every dimension of life.

3. His Hands – Forgiveness

Colossians 2:14

having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which

was hostile to us; and He has taken it out  of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

3. His Hands – Forgiveness

The debt, the promissory note, and the arrest warrants are all marked canceled when I receive Jesus¡¯ forgiveness.

4. His Feet – Victory

Colossians 2:15

And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the Cross

Joshua 10:16-28

16 Now these five kings had fled and hidden themselves in the cave at Makkedah.

17 It was told Joshua, saying, ¡°The five kings have been found hidden in the cave at Makkedah.¡±

18 Joshua said, ¡°Roll large stones against the mouth of the cave, and assign men by it to guard them,

19 but do not stay there yourselves; pursue your enemies and attack them in the rear. Do not allow them to enter their cities, for the LORD your God has delivered them into your hand.¡±

20 It came about when Joshua and the sons of Israel had finished slaying them with a very great slaughter, until they were destroyed, and the survivors who remained of them had entered the fortified cities,

21 that all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace. No one uttered a word against any of the sons of Israel.

22 Then Joshua said, ¡°Open the mouth of the cave and bring these five kings out to me from the cave.¡±

23 They did so, and brought these five kings out to him from the cave: the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.

24 When they brought these kings out to Joshua, Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the chiefs of the men of war who had gone with him, ¡°Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings.¡± So they came near and put their feet on their necks.

25 Joshua then said to them, ¡° Do not fear or be dismayed! Be strong and courageous, for thus the LORD will do to all your enemies with whom you fight.¡±

26 So afterward Joshua struck them and put them to death, and he hanged them on five trees; and they hung on the trees until evening.

27 It came about at sunset that Joshua gave a command, and they took them down from the trees and threw them into the cave where they had hidden themselves, and put large stones over the mouth of the cave, to this very day.

28 Now Joshua captured Makkedah on that day, and struck it and its king with the edge of the sword; he utterly destroyed it and every person who was in it. He left no survivor. Thus he did to the king of Makkedah just as he had done to the king of Jericho.

4. His Feet – Victory

By His Death on the Cross, Jesus put my weakness, fear, and defeat under His Feet.

5. His Head – Blessing

Genesis 3:18

Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you;

Philippians 4:19

And my God will supply all your needs according to His Riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

6. His Side – Inner Healing

The inner wounds and heartbreak of my experiences and circumstances are healed as I release bitterness and experience forgiveness.

C. Conclusion

1. Exchange

I Samuel 22:2

Everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him; and he became captain over them. Now there were about four hundred men with him.

2. Under water & over water

3. The good Samaritan

Luke 10:34

He came to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn and took care of him.

II. The Power of the Resurrection

A. For Christians

  1. Restoration from the deadly hopeless

  3. Restoration from the deadly insecure
