This prayer of the Son of God was recorded to instruct the readers of their privileged place in their union with both the Father and the Son because of Christ’s ministry on their behalf (17:1–26)

Character of Jesus from this chapter (예수님의 성격)

Jesus’ Prayer for His Disciples

(제자들을 위한 예수님의 기도)

During 3 ½ years Jesus invested all of His energy on His 12 Disciples intensive way. And now it is the time to leave them to be crucified. That is why He did spend very special time only with His Disciples for this night, and He shared the most important message for them.

John Chapter 17, He prayed for Himself, for His Disciples and for all Christians from their ministry very seriously.

Today I will share about His Prayer for His Disciples.

He prayed for them 1) Life in the Lord, 2) Life in the world.

I. Prayer for the Oneness

   주님안에서 하나가 되도록

1. Jesus’ Disciple making

     예수님의 제자 삼는 사역에 대하여

   1) I have manifested Your Name to the men

        whom You gave Me out of the world;

       예수님께서 하나님의 이름(본질)을 제자들에게 나타내심

요한복음 17:6

세상 중에서 내게 주신 사람들에게 내가 아버지의 이름을 나타내었나이다 저희는 아버지의 것이었는데 내게 주셨으며 저희는 아버지의 말씀을 지키었나이다

The name means as identification and the character.

When we hear someone’s name, then we are able to see the entire person in our mind if we know the person. In Jew’s culture and concept – the name is so important, that every name has a meaning. Lot of American people do not know the meaning of their names.

My parents made our name very carefully with special meaning, their names represent their character and their destiny, I, myself named my children with prophetic meanings.

Each name is not just something that’s made to call the person; it carries more meaning related with the relationship.

Jesus has manifested God’s Name means that He represented the Father God to His Disciples through His Life, through His Teaching and His Discipleship ministry, so that they can enter into the deep intimate relationship with Father.

That is why Jesus as God Himself had the intimate relationship with them for 3 ½ years.

Jesus’ ministry was the Cell ministry (modern word), and He is the One who started this small group Cell ministry. I know that there are some people who are against this cell ministry, because they believe that this cell ministry is man made, not by the Holy Spirit.

Sadly people made their own mind to eliminate the Holy Spirit works. We have to be careful in what we think and judge. We do not want to do the same mistake that Paul did 2000 years ago. He thought that he loved the Lord by his understanding and his mind set, but actuality what he did was going against the Lord Jesus the Messiah by his own man made mind.

We talk about the cell ministry and the disciple making ministry.

Whenever I prophesied to people, God always reminds me that God has huge plans for each people way beyond what they believe.

Same way God spoke to me about this Cell Ministry.

This cell ministry and the disciple making ministry is not just about the multiplication alone, but this ministry is way beyond of God’s Mysteries than what we understand.

I shared with you many times that God is going to release the new things in our life before. God spoke to me that God is going to release the unlimited new things (with new wine and new wineskin) that you never imagined before. The Cell ministry and the Discipleship ministry is just the beginning of the gate to enter into the Mysteries and the Secret things of the Kingdom of the Lord.

I still do not understand exactly what the unlimited new things are, and only I know that it is a tremendous blessing from the Lord. God reminds me through

에배소서 1:3

찬송하리로다 하나님 곧 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 아버지께서 그리스도 안에서 하늘에 속한 모든 신령한 복으로 우리에게 복 주시되

I believe that every spiritual blessing in heaven is the unlimited one.

Can you imagine that how many blessing there are in heaven?

This is the Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven.

하나님 나라의 비밀들!!!

That is why Jesus focused on His Disciples for His ministry and interceded for His Disciples before He took the cross. We really have to see and hear what Jesus is speaking to us today continually. And we have to give attention carefully to what He focused on.

여호수아  1:8

이 율법책을 네 입에서 떠나지 말게 하며 주야로 그것을 묵상하여 그 가운데 기록한대로 다 지켜 행하라 그리하면 네 길이 평탄하게 될 것이라 네가 형통하리라

If we give more attention on the obedience to the word of God with careful heart, then we have to, in the same way, give attention to Jesus who walked on earth as God Himself.

If we do, God will give us the prosperous and success in our life.

If it is not so important, then He should not make disciples through His Ministry, should not intercede for His Disciples and should not give us the great commission.

Do you want to follow Jesus?

Do you want to be a like Jesus?

Do you want to live like Jesus?

What area do you want to be like Jesus?

I do not know, how much you want to be like Jesus, but I want to be like Jesus 100% in every area. I want to follow after His every step what He has been walked.

There are many great leaders in the Lord, but Jesus Christ is my only Example, and He is the only One Lord to me and you.

The Discipleship ministry is to bring the people to the Lord and lead them to enter the deep intimate relationship.

예수 그리스도를 알고 세상으로 주님을 알게하자

(To Know Jesus Christ and To Make Him Known)

   2) the words which You gave Me I have given to them;

        예수님께서 하나님의 말씀을 제자들에게 주심

요한복음 17:8

나는 아버지께서 내게 주신 말씀들을 저희에게 주었사오며 저희는 이것을 받고 내가 아버지께로부터 나온 줄을 참으로 아오며 아버지께서 나를 보내신 줄도 믿었사옵나이다

Jesus’ entire life on earth was manifested God Father alone.

He had a relationship with people with Father’s heart, He taught them with Father’s

Word, and He did perform the miracles, wonders, signs, healings and deliverance that

He saw the Father doing.

Even Jesus said in 요한복음 5:19  그러므로 예수께서 저희에게 이르시되 내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 아들이 아버지의 하시는 일을 보지 않고는 아무 것도 스스로 할 수 없나니 아버지께서 행하시는 그것을 아들도 그와 같이 행하느니라

At that time, He wanted me to lay down everything that I have under the feet of Jesus, and empty my heart. And He will fill my heart with His Secret things in Heaven from the Father continually. He does not want me to see what I have, because when I start to see what I have, then it would become old and time to dump them out of me like as the engine oil. The engine oil has to be changed with new oil continually to keep running the engine.

What I have to do is to receive only from the Lord and release it to His People.

Then how much more do I have to follow my Lord Jesus instead of relying on what I have?

Especially Jesus did treat His Disciples very specially way and focus on them compare to others.

Look! What Jesus said about it.

마태복음 13:11

대답하여 가라사대 천국의 비밀을 아는 것이 너희에게는 허락되었으나 저희에게는 아니되었나니

요한복음 13장 -16장은 예수님께서 그의 제자들만 초청하신 개인의 특별한 저녁 만찬이었고, 또 예수님께서 제자들만을 위한 특별한 말씀을 하셨다.

예수님께서 그들에 하신 매우 중요한 말씀을 묵상해보자.

요한복음 15:16

너희가 나를 택한 것이 아니요 내가 너희를 택하여 세웠나니 이는 너희로 가서 과실을 맺게 하고 또 너희 과실이 항상 있게 하여 내 이름으로 아버지께 무엇을 구하든지 다 받게 하려 함이니라

예수님께서 선포하신 이 말씀들은 대중에게 선포하신 말씀이 아니고, 사적으로 그의 제자들에게만 선포하신 말씀들이다. 하나님께서 예수님께 주신 이 특별한 선택된 하나님 말씀을 예수님께서 그의 선택된 제자들에게만 주신것이다.

우리들은 예수님의 사역이 무었인지를 알아야한다. 나는 하나님께서 당신의 마음 문을 열으셔서 하나님의 분명하신 비젼을 보고 그 비젼을 당신의 것으로 받아들이기를 기도한다.

우리의 인생은 매우 짧고 또한 우리의 삶은 얼마 남지 않았다. 그러므로 나는 더 이상 나의 삶을 허비하지 않을 것이며 또한 나의 시간을 열매 맺지 못하는 일에 쓰지 않을 것이다.  당신들도 이와같은 헌신을 하길 원하다. 우리는 많은 종말적인 예언들을 들어 오고있다. 그러므로 당신은 때와 시기에 대한 눈을 가져야한다.

예수님의 제자들은 예수님과 마지막 시간을 보냈으나 제자들은 끄 때와 시기를 전혀 감지하지 못하고 있었다.

예수님께서 그의 제자들에게 경계하시지않으셨는가?  예수님께서 그들에게 여러번 경고하셨읍니다. 그러나 그들의 마음 눈은 멀어 있었기 때문에 그 경고를 이해할 수 가 없었읍니다. 결국 그 들은 청천 벼락같은 비참한 암흑의 순간을 갑자기 준비없이 맞이하게 되었다

지금 과연 우리에게는 얼마만큼의 시간이 남아있는가.?

예수님께서는 지금 예수님의 신부를 기다리고 계시며, 또한 신부는 신랑이신 예수님을 맞지할 준비가 되어져 가고있다.

예수님께서는 그의 신부가 정결하게 준비 돠기를 원하신다.

당신이 바로 예수님을 영접할 신부이다.

당신은 과연 예수님을 모실 준비가 되었읍니까?

   3) The Disciples are sent by God

       하나님께서 제자들을  예수님께 보내셨다

      a) They were Yours

      b) You gave them to Me,

      c) all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine

      d) I have been glorified in them

God sent Jesus’ Disciples to Jesus, and Jesus took them as His Disciples even Iscariot Judas.

Iscariot Judas was one of Jesus’ Disciples, but he had issues with the money materialism mind. John mentioned that he was a thief and he had an integrity problem even he was in the Ministry of Jesus as an accounting treasurer.  According to Paul’s letter in I Timothy 6:10 “for the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil”

Even though we are in the ministry, we can be fallen to this sin if we do not keep integrity in this area. We have to clear every sin with each other.

The Lord told me that He is going to send people who are assigned by the Lord from Isaiah 49: and numerous times to me through the prophetic words from the Lord.

You are here, because God sent you to One Glory Church.

You are from the Lord for His Own purpose, and you are so precious to me.

.

The being a Disciple is not just joining the member of the group, but what are also required are; aligning the heart to Jesus’ vision, receiving the word of God seriously to know Jesus, coming into deeper relationship with the Lord, and giving their life fully for the Lord.

Ones do not do their own thing, but align with the Lord all the time instead of doing their own according to their own understanding and will.

The disciples are who:

누가복음9:23

또 무리에게 이르시되 아무든지 나를 따라 오려거든 자기를 부인하고 날마다 제 십자가를 지고 나를 좇을 것이니라

누가복음 14:26-27

무릇 내게 오는 자가 자기 부모와 처자와 형제와 자매와 및 자기 목숨까지 미워하지 아니하면 능히 나의 제자가 되지 못하고

 ²⁷누구든지 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 좇지 않는 자도 능히 나의 제자가 되지 못하리라

이와 같이 너희 중에 누구든지 자기의 모든 소유를 버리지 아니하면 능히 내 제자가 되지 못하리라

요한복음8:31-32

그러므로 예수께서 자기를 믿은 유대인들에게 이르시되 너희가 내 말에 거하면 참 내 제자가 되고

진리를 알찌니 진리가 너희를 자유케 하리라

   5) Jesus poured out His life for His Disciples

         예수님은 그의 삶을 그의 제자들에게 쏟아 부으셨다.

¹² “While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.

 ¹²내가 저희와 함께 있을 때에 내게 주신 아버지의 이름으로 저희를 보전하와 지키었나이다 그 중에 하나도 멸망치 않고 오직 멸망의 자식 뿐이오니 이는 성경을 응하게 함이니이다

We pour out our heart for the very important matter in our life.

When our children were growing up, my wife and I did our best to pour our life for them whatever we could.

Why do we make money? We do make money because of our family, especially for our children. Even some parents give up their lives for their children.

Our Lord, Jesus Christ did pour out His life for His Disciples, because they were His Children.

마가복음 10:24

제자들이 그 말씀에 놀라는지라 예수께서 다시 대답하여 가라사대 얘들아 하나님의 나라에 들어가기가 어떻게 어려운지

Jesus spent time with His Disciples everyday for 3 ½ years. He taught, trained, equipped, built up and prepared them for the Kingdom of God, because His Disciples were His Hope and Future.

During the ministry on the earth, He kept secured of their salvation in Father’s Name and guarded from perishes.

당신의 전 생애를 다 바쳐 헌신하는 소망과 미래를 보장하는 것이 무었인가?

2. Jesus’ request to Father – I ask on their behalf;

    제자들을 위한 예수님의 특별 기도

요한복음 17:11

나는 세상에 더 있지 아니하오나 저희는 세상에 있사옵고 나는 아버지께로 가옵나니 거룩하신 아버지여 내게 주신 아버지의 이름으로 저희를 보전하사 우리와 같이 저희도 하나가 되게 하옵소서

Now Jesus is going to take the cross, to die on the cross, to resurrect from the dead and to ascend to Heaven. After 43 days, He will no longer be with them, who did not understand the entire situation very well yet, physically.

Jesus knew what would happen, but His Disciples did not have any idea and clue.

So Jesus prayed to Father for special requests.

요한복음 17:9

내가 저희를 위하여 비옵나니 내가 비옵는 것은 세상을 위함이 아니요 내게 주신 자들을 위함이니이다 저희는 아버지의 것이로소이다

He did pray for the world, but here in this time, Jesus prayed in the special time to focus for His Disciples who are Apostles for the new generation of the Lord as Joshua generation. – And this new generation carried His Good News all over the world, and brings the revival to the world. Because His Disciples were the most important in His Eyes in bringing the Kingdom of God to the world.

That is why He did not ask on behalf of the world, but asked on behalf of His Disciples.

요한복음 17:11

 ¹¹나는 세상에 더 있지 아니하오나 저희는 세상에 있사옵고 나는 아버지께로 가옵나니 거룩하신 아버지여 내게 주신 아버지의 이름으로 저희를 보전하사 우리와 같이 저희도 하나가 되게 하옵소서

And also He is going to come to the Father, and He will no longer be in the world, but His Disciples will remain in the world.

요한복음 17:12

내가 저희와 함께 있을 때에 내게 주신 아버지의 이름으로 저희를 보전하와 지키었나이다 그 중에 하나도 멸망치 않고 오직 멸망의 자식 뿐이오니 이는 성경을 응하게 함이니이다

During the ministry on the earth, He secured their salvation in Father’s Name and guarded from perishes.

Jesus was keeping them in Father’s name, guarded them all the time.

So He did ask His Holy Father for them

   1) keep them in Your name (for the security),

       내게 주신 아버지의 이름으로 저희를 보전하사

        the name which You have given Me, - Jesus Himself identified His name with us as one with Him.

While His Disciples were with Jesus, He secured their salvation on the Name of Father God, and He guarded their lives to be holy through His Discipleship Ministry in the Name of Father.

This security and guard were not just one time thing at all, but these were on going matter, and the Lord continually built them up for 3 ½ years during His Ministry.

The eleven Disciples followed Him faithfully and stayed with Him until Jesus ascended to heaven.

They did finish well their race with Jesus until His ascension.

It was only Iscariot Judas not only did not finished well with Jesus, but he betrayed Jesus and left Jesus. He ended his life so bad that he killed himself.   

It is very important how to start your Christian life, but the most important thing is how to finish it.

The eleven Disciples finished their race well because of one heart with Jesus Christ until the end of Jesus ministry.

In the beginning there were so many people who followed Jesus, however, in the middle of Jesus’ 2^nd year ministry almost everyone left Jesus except 12 Disciples.

We could see that only 120 people were at the upper room on the Pentecostal day.

When you get married, most of the people are in the joy of the honeymoon at the first year, but from 2^nd year the honeymoon mood is getting faded away, as years pass by the honeymoon mood all but disappear. Some people dropped their marriage life, and some people keep their marriage life until they die.

My mother and father lived together for 62 years. They finished their marriage life well.

The ministry is the same way. People start together with excitement, but before long we see a lot of people drop their vision and leave with many reasons

I have a strong desire for you and want to see that you all finish your race well together until Jesus comes.

Because of this prayer 12 disciples did reach out the nations widely. None of them were fallen into sin and were followed the world

They were all martyred except John who was exiled to Patmos.

The first church was the cost of Jesus’ Disciples’ blood.

Every Apostle finished their race very well up to death, and continually the gospel

spread out to the world.

We are in Christ today because of the Disciples’ blood and Jesus’ prayer for them..

We are the fruit of Jesus’ prayer.

You came to the Lord from inside of Jesus’ prayer.

312 AD finally Constantine the Great was converted to the Christianity.

   2) They may be one even as We are One.

       우리와 같이 저희도 하나가 되게 하옵소서

One - the unity and the intimate relationship

Jesus is one unity with the Father perfectly. He never manifested Himself alone, but the Father all the time. He did not give anything to His disciples with His own initiatives, but He only gave them what the Father gave to Him. His mind was full of the Father’s mind and heart. He lived on the earth fully in Him. Everything is the possession of the Father and also it’s Jesus’, because They are One. He did not do His ministry by His own name, but He under the Father’s name. He glorified the Father’s name all the time.  

같은 방법으로 하나님께서는 우리로 하나님과 하나가 되기를 원하신다. 우리는 우리의 뜻을 하나님께 복종해야하며 또 우리의 뜻을 주님의 뜻에 일치시켜야한다.

하나가 된다는 뜻은 우리의 뜻을 하나님의 뜻에 일치시키는것 뿐만 아니라 또한 우리가 주님과의 긴밀한 관계 속으로 들어가는것을 의미한다

Genesis (창세기) 2:24

이러므로 남자가 부모를 떠나 그 아내와 연합하여 둘이 한 몸을 이룰찌로다                         

우리의 신앙 생활에 있어서 주님과 하나가 된다는것은 엄청나게 중요한 것이다.

II. Prayer for the Life in the World

    (세상에서 승리의 삶을 살도록)

1. He prayed for Jesus’ Joy in His Disciples

    예수님의 기쁨을 기도하심

요한복음 17:13-14

 ¹³지금 내가 아버지께로 가오니 내가 세상에서 이 말을 하옵는 것은 저희로 내 기쁨을 저희 안에 충만히 가지게하려 함이니이다

 ¹⁴내가 아버지의 말씀을 저희에게 주었사오매 세상이 저희를 미워하였사오니 이는 내가 세상에 속하지 아니함 같이 저희도 세상에 속하지 아니함을 인함이니이다

Jesus Disciples were no longer belongs to the world, also the world hate His Disciples

The joy brings victory in danger places. 

2. He prayed for their protection from the evil one.

    그들의 보전을 위하여 기도하심

요한복음 17:15-16

내가 비옵는 것은 저희를 세상에서 데려가시기를 위함이 아니요 오직 악에 빠지지 않게 보전하시기를 위함이니이다

내가 세상에 속하지 아니함 같이 저희도 세상에 속하지 아니하였삽나이다

3. He prayed for their sanctification

    그들의 거룩함을 기도하심

요한복음 17:17

저희를 진리로 거룩하게 하옵소서 아버지의 말씀은 진리니이다

Sanctify them (거룩하게 하옵소서)—This word has two meanings:

   1. It signifies to consecrate, to separate from earth and common use,

       and to devote or dedicate to God and His Service.

   2. It signifies to make holy or pure.

The prayer of Christ may be understood in both these senses. He prayed—

   1. That they might be fully consecrated to the work of the ministry,

       and separated from all worldly concerns.

   2. That they might be holy, and patterns of all holiness to those to whom they
       announced the salvation of God.

A minister who engages himself in worldly concerns is a reproach to the Gospel; and he who is not saved from his own sins cannot with a bad grace recommend salvation to others.

Your Word is Truth (아버지의 말씀은 진리니이다)— It is not only according to the truth of God that ministers are to be set apart to the sacred work; but it is from that truth, and according to it, that they must preach to others. That doctrine which is not drawn from the truth of God can never save souls. God blesses no word but His Own; because none is truth, without mixture of error, but that which has proceeded from Himself. Our Lord still acts here in reference to the conduct of the High Priest, to whom it belonged to sanctify the priests, the sons of Aaron:

4. He prayed for their mission (vv. 18, 19)

    그들의 사역을 위하여 기도하심

요한복음 17:18-19

 ¹⁸아버지께서 나를 세상에 보내신 것 같이 나도 저희를 세상에 보내었고

 ¹⁹또 저희를 위하여 내가 나를 거룩하게 하오니 이는 저희도 진리로 거룩함을 얻게 하려

     함이니이다

As You sent Me, I also have sent them (아버지께서 나를 세상에 보내신 것 같이 나도 저희를 세상에 보내었고)—The apostles had the same commission which Christ had, considered as man—they were endued with the same Spirit, so that they could not err, and their word was accompanied with the same success.

I sanctify Myself (내가 나를 거룩하게 하오니)—I consecrate and devote Myself to death—that I may thereby purchase eternal salvation for them. There seems to be here an allusion to the entering of the high priest into the Holy of Holies, when, having offered the sacrifice, he sprinkled the blood before the Ark of the Covenant. So Jesus entered into the holiest of all by His Own Blood, in order to obtain everlasting redemption for men: see Hebrews (히브리서) 9:11-13.

The word, Sanctify, to consecrate or sanctify, is used in the sense of devoting to death, in Jeremiah (예레미야) 12:3, both in the Hebrew and in the Septuagint: the Hebrew signifies also to sacrifice.

The Cup of the Sacrifice (희생의 잔)

마태복음  20:22-23

²²예수께서 대답하여 가라사대 너희 구하는 것을 너희가 알지 못하는도다 나의 마시려는 잔을 너희가 마실 수 있느냐 저희가 말하되 할 수 있나이다

²³가라사대 너희가 과연 내 잔을 마시려니와 내 좌우편에 앉는 것은 나의 줄것이 아니라 내 아버지께서 누구를 위하여 예비하셨든지 그들이 얻을 것이니라

Conclusion (결론)

1. Why did Jesus pour out His life for His Disciples?

    예수님께서 자신의 모든 정열을 그 분의 제자들에게 쏟으신 이유는 무엇인가?.

     Proverbs (잠언) 29:18

  “Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained,

   But happy is he who keeps the law.”

    만일 우리에게 제자삼는 사역에 대한 분명한 비젼이 없다면 예수님의 지상 최대 명랑에 대한 참된 비젼은 있을수 없다.  

2. No one run the race without the goal. (목표없는 경주는 없다.)

    1 Corinthians (고린도전서) 9:24-27

²³내가 복음을 위하여 모든 것을 행함은 복음에 참예하고자 함이라

²⁴운동장에서 달음질하는 자들이 다 달아날찌라도 오직 상 얻는 자는 하나인 줄을 너희가 알지 못하느냐 너희도 얻도록 이와 같이 달음질하라

²⁵이기기를 다투는 자마다 모든 일에 절제하나니 저희는 썩을 면류관을 얻고자 하되 우리는 썩지 아니할 것을 얻고자 하노라

²⁶그러므로 내가 달음질하기를 향방 없는것 같이 아니하고 싸우기를 허공을 치는것 같이 아니하여

²⁷내가 내 몸을 쳐 복종하게 함은 내가 남에게 전파한 후에 자기가 도리어 버림이 될까 두려워함이로라

3. Another purpose of the race is to gain the reward. (경주에는 반드시 상이있다.)

    1 Corinthians (고린도 전서) 9:24

²⁴운동장에서 달음질하는 자들이 다 달아날찌라도 오직 상 얻는 자는 하나인 줄을 너희가 알지 못하느냐 너희도 얻도록 이와 같이 달음질하라

The most important matter is the intimate relationship with the Lord.

The Great Commission will be fruitful based on how we are in the intimate relationship with the Lord.

The true vision of the great commission shall be revealed through the intimate relationship with the Lord.

Let’s enter into His chamber daily and have the intimate relationship with the Lord.

지상 최대 명령의 참된 비젼은 주님과의 긴밀한 관계속에서 이루어진다.
